What is a Keratin Smoothing Treatment?
This treatment smoothes hair and uses a keratin-based formula to improve the texture and manageability of your hair, and it makes hair stronger, healthier and improves texture with repeated use. The treatment is designed to reduce frizz, reduce styling time, and give your hair a more polished, smooth appearance. It will slightly loosen natural wavy, curly and coily textures, however this treatment will not straighten hair.
Will this treatment permanently straighten my hair?
The Keratin Smoothing Treatment will not straighten your hair. However, it can help to reduce frizz and improve the overall smoothness and manageability of your hair, which may make it appear straighter. The treatment smooths and reduces frizz, and will slightly loosen natural wavy, curly and coily textures.
How long does the service take?
The Express Treatment takes approximately 1-2 hours, and the Classic Treatment requires 2-4 hours of time. Please note if you are adding another service on (i.e. a haircut or colour service) this will add time to your appointment.
How long will my results last?
Express Treatment results can last up to 10 weeks, and Classic Treatment can last up to 5 months with proper care. Factors such as heat styling, coloring, and washing can all affect the longevity of the treatment. It is recommended that you use professional haircare to help the treatment last longer.
We cannot guarantee results if non-professional shampoo and conditioner are used.
Can I add this on to my regular appointment?
Yes, you can book a Keratin Smoothing Treatment with any of our other services. Please let us know in advance so we can ensure enough time is reserved for you! Express Treatments add approximately 1-2 hours onto your service, and Classic Treatments add approximately 2-4 hours.
Who is the Blonde treatment for?
The Classic Blonde and Express Blonde treatments have pigments that tone natural and highlighted blondes to a neutral-cool tone. The Blonde treatment will not make your hair lighter, however, you can add this treatment to any colour service.
Will this treatment damage my hair?
The Keratin Smoothing Treatment is designed to improve the texture and manageability of your hair, and it should not cause damage when applied correctly by a trained professional. However, as with any chemical treatment, there is a small risk of damage, especially if your hair is already damaged or chemically treated. It is important to follow the recommended aftercare instructions to minimize the risk of damage.
Does this treatment contain formaldehyde?
Some keratin treatments have been known to contain formaldehyde, a potentially harmful chemical that can cause respiratory issues and other health problems. However, our Keratin Smoothing Treatment is formaldehyde-free and uses a keratin-based formula that is safe for use on your hair.
How do I care for my hair after the treatment?
After getting the treatment, you can wash, style, and add product to your hair immediately - there is no downtime required.
All Aveda shampoos and conditioners are safe to use, however we recommend one that is moisturizing such as Nutriplenish.
We cannot guarantee the longevity of results if non-professional products are used.
Can I book this treatment for my child?
This treatment contains ingredients that are safe for everyone, and can certainly improve the manageability of your child’s hair. As long as we have parental consent, we can book this treatment for your child.
I’m pregnant/breastfeeding. Can I use the treatment?
Although this treatment does not contain formaldehyde, carcinogens or dangerous chemicals, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding check with your physician for a professional recommendation first.
